What Is Happening?

In early 2024, the European Commission carried out antitrust raids at six major tire manufacturers following suspicions of illegal price fixing.

The ongoing investigations focus on replacement tires for trucks, buses, vans and cars. According to the Commission, the price fixing took place during a (so far unpublished) main period; there were also indications that antitrust violations had already been committed prior to this.

A ruling by the EU General Court of July 9, 2025, has confirmed that the Commission had a well-founded basis for its suspicions during the main period (Case T-188/24).

Additionally, several manufacturers—among them Goodyear—seem to be cooperating with the authorities as "crown witnesses", further indicating that cartel violations likely took place.

As a result, there are strong indications that a tire cartel existed—which in turn means that tire purchasers may be entitled to damage claims.

Targeted Companies: The raids involved Continental, Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Goodyear, and Nokian.

Scope of the Case: The potential cartel concerns new replacement tires sold across the European market, affecting a broad range of industries and vehicle types (trucks, buses, vans, cars).

Potential Impact: If confirmed, tire purchasers could be entitled to compensation—possibly up to 15% of purchase prices, plus interest (based on experience with similar cases).

What we recommend

Get Updates

We recommend not taking any action at this time, but to wait for the Commission's further investigations. Only then will it be possible to determine the actual value of the claims and, on this basis, calculate a fair offer for claims enforcement.

We will continue to monitor the case and propose a tailor-made solution for the best possible enforcement of your claims in due time – with litigation funding to cover all legal costs and risks.

Important: Secure your potential claims for damages now for later enforcement.

To prepare effectively:

  • keep all documents related to tire purchases—regardless of year, manufacturer, or seller. This includes invoices, contracts and electronic records.
  • archive all digital information and documents as well as paper documents permanently and suspend routine deletion of relevant documents—even after legal retention periods have expired.
  • where documents are missing, try to recover them (e.g. by requesting duplicates from suppliers).
